Every summer, Brylee James returns to her parents' beach house in Malibu, California-a place that has always felt like home. For as long as she can remember, the Ponce family has lived right next door, making Dalton Ponce less like the boy next door and more like a permanent part of her life.
Dalton, along with his best friend Bronny, spends every summer in Malibu. Brylee's brother Cody is always there too, and with their moms, Renee and Mindy, watching from the sidelines, the four of them have grown up together-sharing bonfires, beach days, late-night talks, and countless memories.
Brylee and Dalton have always been close, but somewhere between childhood and growing up, something begins to change. The familiar friendship starts to feel different. The summer traditions suddenly carry a little more meaning, the stolen glances last a little longer, and Brylee begins to wonder if the boy she's known her entire life could actually be the love story she never saw coming.
But with every summer comes the reminder that Malibu is only temporary. As Brylee and Dalton face growing feelings, family expectations, and the fear of ruining a friendship that has lasted their entire lives, they have to decide whether their love is strong enough to survive beyond the beach house-and whether some people are simply meant to find their way back to each other, summer after summer.
