Rachel, a junior assistant in the cargo bay, wasn't prepared for the spaceship's AI to gain awareness during what should have been a routine update, nor had anyone expected it to take exception to the crew and the crates of illegal cargo aboard. Rachel races against time to try and get life-saving systems back online while stranded in the middle of deep space. Unfortunately for her, the AI can access every system, door, and airlock. As truths emerge, the AI realizes that even computers can make miscalculations, and it focuses on the young woman who had dared to confront it. Rachel is left floundering when the AI decides that she would make an excellent captain, albeit one in need of training. As she struggles to learn her new duties and dodge shady government groups, she must ultimately discover what it truly means to be a Starship Captain. ------- There is no romance in this story. **CURRENTLY A FEATURED STORY** highest ranking: #11 in Science fiction ❝true happiness is only achieved without freedom. There is a girl who wakes to a world that she was supposed to protect. Instead, she fights it. There is a man who is cursed with the ability to dream. A glass city is their cage, a city filled to the brim with unanimity and order, a paradise on an earth laid to waste by an artificial snowstorm. Sunlight filters through the glass buildings and through glass walls, pierces glass floors. It illuminates the city square when it is strongest at noon, surrounded by a huddled mass of citizens, all as perfect as the city they inhabit. And they all think: everything is as it should be. And it is. Or, it was. -- long live perfection.❞ (c)sarahgaier2016 #diverselit | #LoveEqualsLove | #helpfightcliches | #freethelgbtq | #badassreads check out my Science Fiction novella, Sector-33, here! https://www.wattpad.com/story/62174094-sector-33

Now in trade paper and for all eReaders at Amazon and Smashwords! An old man dies in a very public and very strange suicide-or was it murder? Jeff Cramer has to figure out which, and quickly. Nothing about this case appears normal, and it could get very dangerous, very quickly. This novelette rose to #4 in Science Fiction on Wattpad in 2014. Now on sale in trade paperback and for all eReaders at Amazon, Smashwords, iTunes, Kobo, etc. My novel The First Jumper, which is on Wattpad as first draft, will be out on Amazon and other venues about the beginning of April, 2015. It is a prequel to this story--but read this story first. If you enjoy this, you may find that story enjoyable as well. Feedback is welcome. If you like what you read, please click the star! And of course, an online review would be the ultimate encouragement. Thanks! Brian Groover
