A sudden, bright flash had him flinching, a red hot burning entering his hands. Sparks flew as he was flung back, his hands and chest burning as he landed hard on his back. His heart beat was loud in his ears, audible under the ringing daze as his head spun. One, and a two, and a three... He rolled over with a groan, scrambling for his helmet. He got it on and looked up, breath catching at the sight of Buck hanging motionless from the ladder. "Buck!" Or Eddie got struck by the same bolt of lightning that stopped Buck's heart. And now he's finding emotions filling his chest every time he touches Buck. But they're not his emotions, so what the hell is going on?

The difference between Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz, lies in the experience of loneliness versus solitude - solitude being a choice, while loneliness never is. Buck spends majority of his life feeling alone - so badly yearning to be someone's first choice for once. Eddie, on the other hand, has recently chosen solitude, not wanting to let anyone know of his struggles hidden beneath the surface. Though they both spend their days fighting fires, will they be able to help one another extinguish those burning within before the smoke causes them to suffocate? ***** This is my first fanfic, so there'll probably be a bunch of edits made throughout / after the full writing process. Buck opens his door to find a baby on his doorstep and has no idea what to do with it. Eddie is roped in to help and the two men help Buck get used to fatherhood. A month later and Buck has an accident, throwing his life into disarray as he loses his independence as a father. Once again, thank god for Eddie and his patience. The 118 has been chosen to take on an intern. There's mixed feelings, but ultimately Bobby's word is final. In comes Cooper Reed, a sixteen year old trying to find his way. He's looking to get himself out of trouble once and for all. So when he stumbles upon the flyer about recruiting an intern at 118, well, he'd be stupid to ignore it. Can Cooper and the firefighters at the 118 become a team? Or will Cooper's past hold him back? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Some moments from the show will be included in this story, but most of the storyline is imagined by me.
