Not because of her younger brother, who she loved more than anything. Somewhere after the first birthday she spent alone, she'd simply learned to build walls instead. She didn't mind the quiet. Quiet meant the ache in her head faded. Quiet meant she could think without everyone else's voices drowning out her own. Most nights, the only thing listening was an old camcorder. She'd whisper her secrets into its cracked microphone until the tape ran out. How pathetic.
