At 15 years old, Peter Parker felt fine. He had a successful school career, participating in academic activities voluntarily, and he felt assured in himself that he could stop crime. Spiderman did everything he couldn't. He saved cats from trees and stopped bank robberies. He fought side-by-side with the Avengers when he was called and Spiderman had since made a home within that tight-knit group.
But there was a time when Peter Parker did not know Spiderman; when he was a lonely kid in the back of the library in Queens, New York. He was 5. He was once small and cute, with an incredibly high and squeaky voice, and he once wanted to learn everything. But that was ten years ago.
Now he wants to learn about engineering and go to college and spend as long as he can with MJ. He has a life ahead of him. He has a present that doesn't weigh him down with every fleeting moment. Because he decided to put it away. One day he packed up everything from his past, put it in a box, and stored it deep within his head. In fact, he might have burned it, considering that when people ask about Peter's childhood, he sometimes can't remember things. Like, what the theme of his eighth birthday was, or his first experience at summer camp, or when him and Ned watched Predator for the first time.
Sometimes, Peter misses the fact that he can't remember those things. But it only takes a misplaced hand during a family movie night or a mistaken swing of the arm in the crowded hallways to remind him what else lurked in those memories. And suddenly he was happy he packed those boxes at all.
