Vivienne Winters-Crawford has always had everything. The penthouse childhood, the private schools, the kind of money that fixes problems before they even start. But now, fresh out of college with an art degree in one hand and independence in the other, she wants to experience being on her own. So she moves out. No staff, no safety net, just a cramped two-bedroom apartment and a roommate she's never expected. Aveline Parker is a ghost of a girl who prefers silence to survival. Grey eyes, jet black hair, and a presence that slips through rooms without a sound. No one knows what she's been through, except Estelle, the woman who gave her a job, a room, and a reason to stay. Aveline doesn't talk much. She doesn't trust. She just survives. When Vivienne answers an ad for a roommate, she never expects the other room to belong to a girl who barely speaks. But there's something magnetic about Aveline. Something quiet and aching. And despite the silence, despite the walls, things start to unravel. One moment at a time. One scar at a time. This isn't a love story born out of ease. It's a love story built in the healing. In the light that comes after the dark.

Messiah Voodum, westside Queenpin, is well known as one of the biggest names in the drug game, so much so that the mere mention of marijuana comes with the calling of her name. Even with all this in a country where marijuana is illegal in large amounts, she is unknown, her name rings bells for most but her face remains a mystery, and the fact only renders her even more powerful. The three-way alliance she has built between herself, her close friend Derrick (D), and her brother Dantae is leading the distribution game in marijuana and cocaine, not only in her country but Jamaica as well. With her being in charge of marijuana, and D and her brother controlling the cocaine she has earned immense wealth, but the wealth isn't all that her rise from poverty has brought. It also leaves her with a sense of caution that weighs on her shoulder every day and paranoia that suffocates, to such an extent that after spending years building an empire and taking care of herself and the people closest to her, she has dominated all aspects of her life except one, romance. So what happens when she finds someone who seems to be all worth it? What happens when she meets Grace Conley, a high school teacher, who she immediately holds intrigue for and becomes the one thing that seems to be giving her a reason to trust and desire love again? She remembered her scent. It seemed to verify her aura. Her scent was cherry Coke and cigarettes. The latter one was passed onto her, especially after she had handed her her first cigarette only three months ago. Three months was all it took for her to develop that bad habit, but it wasn't the first nor the only one she developed in that period of time. Now she laid on the roof where she had smoked her first cigarette three months ago, and she glanced over at the full can of cherry Coke sitting on the concrete next to her, almost as if it were mocking her. A dull ache formed in her heart, a hollow, resounding ache that penetrated her deepest core. The sudden burning sensation in her fingers made her realize that the cigarette was burned to its very end, and maybe so was she. -♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤- August is attending Cornell University as a creative writing major, and while at a college party her friends dragged her to much to her dismay, she stumbles upon a gang in an alleyway and sees something she shouldn't have. With her life now in danger, she has to deal with the consequences of that night-which includes the leader of the Blue Porcelain gang, Willow, a tall and brooding woman whose green eyes would put the girl in more danger than being caught in a spiderweb of New York gangs ever could. "I don't really like your attitude, 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘥." she says, her accent flowing like water through her words. "I didn't know we were on a nickname basis, 𝘝𝘢𝘭." I retort. She walks over to me, every step deafening. Fuck my ears are definitely heating up. Her hand finds my chin. "What's the matter? Cat's got your tongue? You can at least look at me." I swallow any feelings I was just feeling. Because I can't. I can't enjoy this. I smirk. "You sure do like touching me." I let my hand come up to her arm and slowly trail my hand down. Leaving goosebumps as I go. I stop at her hand and remove it from my chin and pull her closer to me. She leans over the desk I'm sitting at, our lips just inches apart. Her eyes flicker down to my lips and she bites her lip before licking them. My heart starts pounding in my chest. I lean in and her eyes flicker back to my eyes and she steps back. "Not a chance." she shakes her head. __________________________________________________________ Robin, known as bird, has a problem. She hates being alive. Mariah Jade Grey is 21 years old, freshly graduated, and trying to figure out what comes next. She's stylish, sarcastic, and guarded- always has been. After losing more than she ever talks about, she's learned not to get too close. Love doesn't stay. People don't stay. So she keeps herself safe: with ambition, independence, and the quiet ache of something missing. Kyra Reyes is 30 years old, the kind of woman with a camera in one hand and someone new on her arm- easy, unattached, free. Nothing ever sticks: not the girls she leaves tangled in her sheets, not the art that never quite feels finished, not the whispers about her being a player. But when it comes to Mariah, everything sticks. Every glance. Every laugh. Every moment that isn't supposed to mean anything, but somehow means everything. As their best friends build new lives and the city around them quiets down, Mariah and Kyra find themselves circling each other, drawn together by late nights, unspoken truths, and the weight of everything they won't say out loud. It's there in the way Kyra looks at her. It's there in the way Mariah never quite lets her go. And when the silence finally breaks, it changes everything. What they have isn't just friendship. But it isn't love. Not yet. Maybe not ever. Almost. But is almost ever enough?

Amara Alonso is 22 years old and is in her final year studying English literature at NYU. She's smart, kind and gentle, she always has been. But she carries a quiet sadness that most don't see. After losing her mother and sister in a tragic car accident 8 months ago, she was left with an alcoholic father who she blames for their death. She promises herself to push through her last year of college but soon falls into a cycle- skipping classes, tear-stained eyes, and an empty stomach. Emilia Zayed is a 29 year old creative writing professor. Emilia is poised, intelligent and emotionally guarded. She keeps everyone at arm's length- students, colleges, friends, and especially family. She doesn't trust people and shows no intention to. She shows no interest in anybody around her, until a soft brown eyed girl enters her lecture with a look of hurt deep in her eyes that she can't seem to stop thinking about. Emilia notices Amara's writing first. There's something about her work-so raw, so aching, so lonely. It touches something in Emilia she thought she'd buried. Never has a student's piece of writing made her feel this way. They shouldn't get close. They can't get close. But they do. And it's slow, quiet, and deeply emotional. It's Amara showing up during Emilia's office hours not just to talk about writing but about life. It's Emilia realising Amara needs more than feedback-she needs someone who sees her. And it's Amara finally finding someone who doesn't leave. The two form an unspoken bond they can't explain. It's forbidden in the eyes of everybody else. But they can't help but feel softer around each other. Will they ever act on it? Will Amara's hurt or Emilia's closed offness prevent them from ever truly opening up and giving in?
