She develops strong feelings for her senior resident Andrew DeLuca once again who begins to reciprocate. After some miscommunication they begin to date and it get's serious throughout the year. The young Karev tackles family issues when her mother visits and helps DeLuca when his mentally ill father visits as well. The relatively smooth year comes to a crashing halt for Amber personally and professionally when she gets roped into Meredith's scheme as well as Alex.

Despite this she is determined to see her intern year through with her head held high and her surgical skills heightened.
