"Now I have realized that life will always find ways to drag me into new fresh hells." Raven paused and leased a shaky breath. "A lifetime of pain has a lot more meaning when you are immortal."
"There are also good and heavenly moments in between those hells." I tried to encourage her, to not make her feel so hopeless.
"Yes Jack, but sometimes the hell has been so great," Raven looked up to me, a deep longing that I had never seen before from anyone shined brightly in her eyes. It mixed with all of the existing murkiness that the sorrow, rage, and pain of the night had brought. "That you are too afraid to indulge in those heavenly moments." My skin burned. Her eyes flickered down to my lips and then back to my own eyes. "And what if those heavenly moments", she continued, "are only meant to lead you to more hell."
Five people from across the world were gathered and made anew in the energy of the brazier. They spread throughout the early civilizations with a singular goal pounded into their heads by whatever deity watched from above. Protect those who cannot protect themselves. For millennia, these beings and their progeny defended the weak from the beasts of mythology that were far too real. Rumors began to spread and the humans dubbed these beings as guardian angels sent by God. Yet they are not celestial or holy, they succumb to the vices of mortals. They grieve, love, and hate just as the humans do, and even so, they continue to protect as they have been commanded. I have observed guardians since their creation and I know one thing to be true. Fate always finds a way to flourish.
