This story is based off The Santa Clause movies and series with a little twist. Carol Calvin and her family have just moved from the North Pole to Chicago. She becomes Principal of a charter school and finds out she is getting a new student. Her name is Regina Mills. Is she just a normal girl or is there more to her that we don't know? A new student, a loving principal, and an abusive mother. ⚠️TW: abuse, talk of abuse. I will put at the top of the chapter when there may be any type of abuse or mentions of it. Suicidal thoughts/attempts/talk

Slapping the snooze button, I cast a bleary eye towards the early morning light filtering through my blinds. For a moment, I wondered why I was awake when my body was telling me to ignore the fact it was a few minutes before six in the morning and to go back to sleep. Despite my deep protest, Voight gave me the day off and I had the option of coming in on my own accord to fill out the paperwork as long as it was done today. Takes place after episode 5x18 "Ghosts"

Now at the three month mark since moving back to Chicago, I realized my career wasn't going to be the same as it once had. The old me had been so stern, a bit unhappy and definitely lost. I loved my job but it had been taking a toll on me up until I became a motherly figure to more than my own children. With many years between that last time I had taken the job as principal and stepping away to move with Scott, I felt like I had more experience and was now channeling a more caring individual.

"I'm not surprised." Piper sighed, putting an arm around my shoulder. "He loved you so much, he was willing to die for you. Let's face it, there aren't many men I know that would do that. Maybe the Elders are rewarding him for what he did, or maybe there's something he knows that we don't. All I know something has changed and Leo is downstairs right now trying to heal him."

"The way you're making that extra effort to hold yourself up as you move suggests you did more than just scrape your arm." He pointed to the pants now draped in front of my stomach like he was pointing out evidence. "If you hadn't pressed to examine me for appendicitis, I wouldn't be standing here. What do you think it is?"

I knew it was never right to keep things a secret from a town that welcomed me in from the beginning. Then again, I realized people in Virgin River were aware of everyone's business. I quit my job back home for that exact reason knowing people would find out if I stayed around. I really did love it here, but I was beginning to wonder if I could ever truly escape my past. If I could run into Don's old accountant in Clear River, it was possible I could run into anyone if I stayed here long enough.
