[A TAGLISH SHORT STORY] 'All we have is now.' In the near distant future where technology is almost abundant to everyone anywhere, how could one person distinguish what is virtual and what is reality? Could technology replace everything that a human lacks? It is true that humans perfected technology. From programming, engineering, and design. They build such wonderful craft to make life easier, to connect people around the globe and 'to have the world in the palm of your hand.' But there's one fact that even technology couldn't fill in, for humans are still flawed and a void in a person's heart isn't the same as how technology demands a software and hardware update. In this new world, how could one person cope up? How could one person catch up to this fast phased generation? Will you still choose to be the person you were? Or will you choose to upgrade yourself setting aside what machines don't have... Aesthetic emotions. Aesthetic connection. Aesthetic Memories. Disclaimer: This story is made from a dream. Like a jar, I was whole. Tidy on the outside, but too fragile to keep. Then came the cracks. Small, easy to hide at first. Until I shattered, piece by piece, in the hands of people who never intended to keep me from the very beginning. They called me a mistake. And soon, I started calling myself unworthy. For a while, that become my only name. So I ran. From Him. From everyone. Ashamed of who I had become, and the cracks I had gathered from years of being blind. But can someone who is been shattered... still hold love again? What if healing feels heavier than the cracks? And what if God was never angry... just waiting? Kaleigh Millan craves escape and thought she'd find it in Middletown Cafe, her cousin's coffee shop. But her fresh start is obliterated the moment she sees him: Jenkin Carter. He's the man linked to her brother's death five years ago, now working behind the counter, serving coffee and apologies she refuses to hear. Forgive Jenkin Carter? Kaleigh would rather drink poison. Forget how he disappeared after her brother died? Impossible when he's now standing inches away and pouring her coffee. She won't forgive. She can't forget. When their encounters bring feelings she thought were long dead, how long can she hold out against it? DISCLAIMER: This story is written in Taglish. BOOK COVER DESIGN: Rykell Arriola
