She knew she didn't have a chance, he had never shown that type of interest in her nor could she ever date him due to him being a family friend. Yes she was one of Snape's favorites but she thought he didn't like her that way. She didn't like DADA until a new professor joined, he was kind and caring. He was gentle, she didn't realize it at the time but she was developing feelings for him as well as Severus.
