It all started in the summer of 1985, when Robin Buckley, a band nerd at Hawkins High School, began working at Scoops Ahoy in the newly built Starcourt Mall. Robin always thought she wouldn't be the kind of person who stays in one town her whole life, only to die young and be stuck there for all eternity. That was her nightmare.
Now, since Operation Croissant failed, she's most likely going to die in Hawkins. Monsters are everywhere, always lurking closer than Robin thinks.
But what if Rebel Robin ends up becoming best friends with someone she never would have befriended in a million years? Or what if she finds her soulmate-not really her soulmate, because she thinks soulmates are for teenage girls who dream of fairy-tale lives: the girl gets the guy, and everything is perfect. Life isn't a fairy tale, though, and Robin is about to learn that the hard way.
Robin might hate this summer-or it might be the strangest one of her life.
