Seventeen-year-old Apollo Reyes-Perez is struggling to understand two things: his identity and his best friend's suicide. But when Amory Hartmann, the new boy in town, catches his attention, he discovers that the answers to those questions may be more complicated than he had anticipated. ...... After the passing of his best friend, Apollo is left in an unfamiliar world, or perhaps one he never understood. Swimming, friends, and family. That was Apollo's universe. Until one day it wasn't. His friends expect too much, his parents don't talk enough, and swimming feels wrong. It only took one day for his life to change. Isn't the world supposed to stop when the person closest to you is gone? That's what he believed. But when the realities of growing up as a Mexican-American teenager hurdle towards him, he must accept the simple fact that life goes on. This becomes abundantly clear when Amory Hartmann enters his life, forcing Apollo to face the parts of himself he intended to keep hidden. Pieces of himself he's been too afraid to share with a boy. Will Apollo learn to leave the past behind him and move towards the future, or will his demons keep dragging him back to the darkest point of his life? He lit his cigarette, I lit nothing. He drank alcohol, I drank water. He smirked, I smiled. He didn't love me, I didn't love him. He and I together wouldn't last a day. And then the game started... He said he found me intriguing, unique, and interesting because I didn't swoon over him. "You and me Grey, let's play a game. We'll date and in three months time I promise you will fall for me. When you fall in love with me between that time span, I win. If in any way you were to win I'll give up all the alcohol, cigarettes, and player ways." It was a game I wasn't willing to lose, but all games had accidents and consequences. It takes a broken heart to know how to break a heart.

[BxB] Waking up next to someone after having a little too much to drink was no new, riveting story in this day and age. Waking up next to another boy, when you were also a boy, was a little more interesting, but still nothing to write home about. But waking up in Nico Beckett's sheets? To Wesley, it was a nightmare come to life. ~~~ Wesley Dillon's life was uneventful, and frankly, he liked it that way. He didn't get into trouble, he kept his grades up, he played it safe. He never did anything to rock the boat he was floating in, the calm waters of his lake left undisturbed. Now starting his last year in high school, Wes was content to continue living his life as he always has - but sometimes, and only sometimes, he caught himself wishing that something could make ripples in his tiny world. What he wasn't ready for were the waves that were Nico Beckett - a troublemaker, womaniser, and an incredibly popular boy at his school. He was everything Wes was not. Nico was the type of guy that Wes never wanted to associate with, but after waking up in his arms with panic in his chest and pains everywhere else, he realised that his life was going to get much, much more complicated. It took him everything to try not to drown as the waves pulled him further and further down. But, somewhere along the way, he wasn't sure that drowning was actually a bad thing. ~~~ #1 in romance (29/09/19) #1 in LGBT (07/09/2019) #1 in bxb (07/09/2019) #1 in boyxboy (08/09/2019) #1 in gay (11/09/2019) #1 in highschool (29/09/19) #1 in school (17/10/19) #1 in comingofage (01/10/19) #1 in slowburn (02/10/19) #1 in BL (04/10/19) #1 in lovetriangle (05/10/19) #1 in family (31/10/19) #1 in comingoutofthecloset (08/01/20) #1 in writtenwithpride (19/06/21) #4 in love (07/03/21)

[romance][spicy][comingofage] "May I have this dance?" I murmur, holding my hand out. She tilts her head up, looking at basketball hoops still lowered from the game, the scoreboard still blinking red, the faint scent of shoe rubber still in the air. "Seriously? In the school gym? Like this?" "Better than the first time." She hits my chest. "This *is* our first time!" I kiss her hand before tucking it on my shoulder. "And for that," I say, softer now, "I'll always be sorry." ~~~ Most people have glow-ups in high school. Jude... didn't. He's always been popular, charming, effortlessly loved. The kind of guy everyone assumed would be football captain senior year. Then a shattered kneecap took him out of the game. A year of surgeries, physical therapy, and homeschooling followed, and by the time Jude comes back, the world has moved on without him. He's slower. Softer. Barely varsity. His friends don't need him the way they used to. And Jude refuses to accept that this is his new place. So when he's dared into a cruel prank, the kind the old Jude would've laughed at, he agrees without hesitation. He asks out the girl no one notices. Homecoming night, he doesn't show. It's supposed to be harmless. A joke. Forgettable. Meanwhile Neela needs an interview with Jude for her article on the psychology of formerly injured athletes, and he's already said no when her club reached out professionally. Getting close to him might be the only way in. So when he asks her to the prom, she jumps on the opportunity. It's supposed to be clinical. Forgettable. It's not. They never expected to fall for each other. ~~~ Part of a series but can be read as a standalone :)
