'They wore uniform grey, their expression hard and distant, their muscles taut with expectation, as if at any moment they were ready to lead an assault, to carry out orders, to kill, to die. And yet they were. Kingston had trained these children to kill at a word, to obey their masters without question. They were machines, the ultimate weapons in modern warfare. Children, as young as seven and as old as eighteen, stood impeccable and fearless, but it was what was hidden in their minds that was to be feared most of all.' Nineteen-year-old Charlotte Owens has entered her final year at Kingston Academy and, together with her best friends, she plans on making it through the year in one piece, away from the scrutinising eye of the headmaster and the founder's son. However, when she discovers that she has been thrust into the role of Head Girl, working alongside a boy she can hardly stand, not only are her plans for anonymity destroyed, but her plans for making it through the year at all seem to be in danger of becoming a wistful dream. Charlotte finds herself faced with the monstrous task of learning to play a game for survival in a world that seems determined to destroy her. Not only fighting for her life, Charlotte must also fight to gain control over the genetic alterations that plague her mind, in an effort to become the soldier she must be. A dark and tense tale of the battle between good and evil, Altered brings to life a strange and deadly world full of power and intrigue, as well as casting light on many secrets that so many hoped would remain undiscovered. When Sarah Fenton is recruited out of her orphanage into a mysterious government program, she doesn’t realize she’s becoming a central figure in a three-way civil war. When Nick Lal receives a powerful brain implant for his birthday, he doesn’t realize it will make him a social outcast and enemy of the state. The world Sarah and Nick grew up in is transforming at catastrophic speed as neurally enhanced youths called Aeons rise to become global oligarchs. The Aeons quickly use their superior intellects and technology to dominate the world economy. Soon Sarah and Nick find their lives revolving around Laura Mayer, the charismatic and brilliant leader of the Aeons. But is Laura working to save humanity from self-assured destruction, as she maintains to Nick? Or is she a manipulative psychopath, as Sarah’s military handlers insist? The United States is torn three ways by a power struggle between the decrepit political institutions in Washington, the destabilizing technology of the Aeons, and a religious revolution in Texas. Soon, Nick and Sarah find themselves serving opposing factions. Will they be able to bridge the chasms of distrust that separate them and save the country from collapse? False Idols is the first novel in the Aeon science fiction trilogy by Alexis Grove.

In the near future, two teens are swept up in the battle for the internet. A fast-paced thriller about the consequences of the choices we make. Jonah Delacroix can't stand the real world - so he lives most of his life inside a global computer-based virtual world called the Metasphere, where everyone is represented by an avatar. When he discovers the avatar of his dead father, and assumes his online identity, he meets Samantha Kavanaugh, a deadly stranger fighting to keep the Metasphere free. Together, they race across the real world with a secret society to protect the freedom of all mankind. This is the first of a four books series that is published in paperback around the world by Hachette. If you like fast-paced thrillers like The Hunger Games, Ready Player One, and The Maze Runner, I think you'll love METAWARS. I'd really appreciate your feedback, and if you get pulled into Jonah & Sam's adventures, please find the sequels (there are 3!) in good bookshops or online, published by Hachette. I'm going to start rewriting the beginning chapters, so don't get TOO confused. UNEDITED -- Read at Your Own Risk {loosely based on a briefly mentioned part in Champion by Marie Lu} In Legend, you learned of the Republic and its struggle for freedom. However, Antarctica has it's own problems. A ranking system like a game. It determines your perks, your rank, your job, your future. Just like a game. But it's not a game, and Candace Parry knows it, though she has submitted to the illusion that she is at least safe within the walls of the Taomiene Pod. But it's not a game. No one is safe in Antarctica.
