"You can't tell me there isn't something here worth risking everything for." [New Adult Apocalyptic Romance] Summary: There are some things that you can't outrun. That becomes all the more obvious when the world is ending, when there's nothing left but the feral creatures that were once people, consumed now by a virus that's made them cannibalistic and ravenous. It might just be easier to end it all, but Claire still has one last thing to fight for. Her younger sister. And she intends to keep her safe, no matter the cost. So, with no other options and her sister in tow, Claire ventures out into the dangers of this new, unforgiving world in search of safety, security, and answers to some long burning questions. The first two things -along with some new, unexpected questions- she finds in an unlikely place: a stranger who she's become indebted to. She has a feeling he can help her answer all her questions, if she can allow herself to fully trust him. Trust, she thinks, is a fragile thing. Humanity, a construct. Love, a weakness. But these are the thoughts of a survivor, and she's beginning to wonder if surviving is all she wants. Maybe she wants to live.

Dr. Elizabeth Hunter thought her life as second year resident could not get anymore frantic than her ER rotation. Crashing heart rates, bottoming out blood pressures, and hysterical patients were something that she could handle. She'd been trained for it after all. But when a patient came into the ER with an unknown disease that Elizabeth has no idea how to treat, she found herself thrown into chaos as the newfound illness plagues the US. After a few close calls, Elizabeth joined ranks with Sergeant Luke Falls who lead her to a military base. Elizabeth tried her best to navigate the unknown in her post-apocalyptic reality, fighting off infected while trying to treat them as patients. In conjunction with Luke and her new comrades, she discovered some particularly troubling information of the etiology of the disease and must make crucial decisions with the lives of those she cares for most hanging in the balance. --- "This is a bad idea," he warned as I started down the hall. "You know, usually I'm the one saying that," I said with a smirk. "If your crazy-ass ideas are the voice of reason, I can't believe you and your friends have lasted this long." He shook his head. "Someone needs to talk some sense into you guys." "I don't need sense. Just luck." The threshold to the lobby loomed ahead. With one last look over my shoulder, I blew a kiss in his direction. "Wish it for me."

The zombie apocalypse started in April. Hannah couldn't fathom how she was able to remember something so irrelevant, although when she has over a year of isolation from any other living human being it's startling as to how much detail and information one person can manage to reminisce. She was 15 years old when it began. Now, she was turning 17 and nothing had gotten better. If anything, everything had become harder. Human extinction was inevitable and the probability of surviving wasn't just slightly possible, it was impossible. Especially when she's alone. Disclaimer- Any similarities to other stories or films is purely accidental and not done intentionally. Obviously, I adopted the idea of zombies and do not claim to have created them.

We don't choose to die, we're designed too. It was just never the creator's plan for the dead to rise again. Zombies were the characters in our nightmares, the actors in our films and the taboo we'd all secretly admired. Never did we imagine they'd become our reality. Now every day is a battle for survival, a fight against the dead that seems to be creeping ever closer. We don't choose to die. We're designed too. * This story follows a small group of teens in a race for survival against the infected, with death, disease and the unshakable feeling that they're being stalked- life just got a whole lot harder. *THE UNEDITED VERSION* Beware of typos, errors, and general mistakes. This is a very, very rough draft. "I live in a place called Compound 4. We are one of ten different compounds placed at strategic locations around the US. It's been thirteen years since the virus overtook humanity, turning about ninety percent of us into zombies. I'm not sure how it started exactly; that's classified information. I do know that in order to save what was left of the human race, the president at the time took a bunch of really smart people and kids and relocated them into new 'protected' cities. My father was one of those really smart people. I was only five at the time, but I knew what was happening." Within the walls of the compound, Jay makes stupid mistakes, mistakes even she doesn't understand, putting everyone inside at risk. All because she can't shoot someone. All because she misses the wind in her hair, the flowers on the hillsides, the sound of crickets at night. All because she's different, the only person untouchable by the Virus. When the mistakes begin to duplicate, and a girl shows up who knows her name, everything begins to change in Compound 4. Highest rank in Science Fiction: #9
