Annalissa's world is perfect- except for that it's not. As a member of the lowest class of Dystopia, the Orphans, she has no say in her destiny. The government decides everything for her. Her only shot at upwards social mobility and maybe even autonomy is to be Chosen up into the Royal class- the top 1% of the population, to be trained as a leader in this corrupt futuristic world. Like that's ever going to happen. By some stroke of luck, Annalissa is Chosen up during the Choosing Day ritual on her sixteenth birthday, right into the Royal sect, along with three other of Dystopia's most perfect, most beautiful, most intelligent, and most amazing people. But when a cute boy from back home appears in her new life speaking of rebellion, what will Annalissa do? And what about Aidan, the mysterious son of the President, who seems to harbor secret affections for her? (Uh-oh, I smell a love triangle) As tensions rise in Dystopia, everyone looks to newly-Chosen Royal, Lady Annalissa Hunter, to lead the country in a rebellion. But is she really prepared to do so when inside she is faced with so much romantic conflict? Join a relatable teenage protagonist just like you and me on this futuristic journey through rebellion, oppressive government regimes, getting your first boyfriend, and all the other clichés of the YA Dystopian genre. ------------------------------------------------------------ *WARNING* There's minor swearing throughout, just in case that's a problem for you. ** Wattpad Featured Story!** A young girl arouses the wrath of an ancient Scottish water spirit who takes her brother's soul in revenge. To save him Brigid must journey through the Shadow realm, begging help and proving herself to each of the totem animal spirits of Britain. Steeped in British mythology and animal lore, The Shadowkeeper is a modern fairy tale written with animation in mind but could also be live action/CGI - lots of CGI! Author's Note: Back in 2005, The Shadowkeeper came heartbreakingly close to being sold to major production companies thanks to good showing in the three screenwriting competitions I submitted to*. A whirlwind trip to Hollywood for an awards night followed by meetings with managers and production companies had my little heart singing (literally one night, at an Etta James concert at the Hollywood Bowl!) Then reality hit. All of the feedback I received was the same: We love it but there's no audience for adventure stories with a female protagonist, change Brigid to a boy and we'll negotiate. Call me stubborn (the two managers offering me representation did) but I didn't think that was a legitimate "note", I thought it was simple sexism and I refused. Since then, The Shadowkeeper has been in the proverbial drawer but I love Brigid, I think she's a badass little eight year old and I've never given up on her. It's now ten years later and the attitude to female protagonists appears to be changing so I'm thinking of submitting The Shadowkeeper again but first I thought I'd pop it up here and see what Wattpadders think. If you like it, I do hope you'll vote and/or comment to let me know whether you'd like to see it on the screen! Happy reading! Darcy. *Competition Results: Finalist, ScriptP.I.M.P. "It's as if the world slows down to a standstill. Touch, taste, smell, hearing, they are all deemed inoperable, all except sight. Sight is amplified. Sight is intensified. Sight becomes my most important asset, and at the same time, becomes my enemy. For if it wasn't for my ability to see, I wouldn't have seen him, with his wide eyes and gaunt face, outstretching his right arm to a peculiar length. I wouldn't have seen the weapon clutched firmly in his hand, pointed directly toward my head. I wouldn't have seen him pull the trigger while looking unapologetically at me. But I do see. I see everything, from his blank, hopeless stare, to the weapon-clad men charging at him unmercilessly. I see him fall to the ground, as if his limbs are pulled out of his body from some unknown force. But first, and to my utter torment, I see his fingertips, blackening and charring as the plague strikes him right before he takes his last breath." © 2014 Liliana Araxes

I have three secrets. 1. I'm in the witness protection program. I witnessed my mother's murder when I was eight years old, and now the murderer is after me. 2. I can read minds. Or not "read" them... not exactly. But I can feel them. Every emotion has a color. An aura, as I call it. And I can feel those auras. I can feel the color of one's thoughts. 3. I can't feel Elijah Whitney's aura. [ COMPLETED - 1.28.16 ] [ LATEST REVISION - 8.17.19 ] [ SEQUEL COMING FALL 2019 ]
