In the halls of King's Landing, some bonds are forged before either child understands what a crown can cost.
Daena Targaryen was born the youngest of King Viserys's children, a girl half-forgotten in the shadow of her siblings' ambitions. Jacaerys Velaryon was raised to be a king one day, his future already promised to another. As children, they were best friends before they knew what enemies their houses would become-two dragons who found in each other something softer than duty.
But childhood does not last, not for the children of kings. Jacaerys is betrothed to his cousin Baela, a match sealed in blood and dragonfire, unbreakable as the vows of old Valyria. Daena is a piece on a board she never asked to play, her hand worth more to her mother's schemes than her heart ever will be. They tell themselves what they share is nothing-old habit, old comfort, nothing more.
They are wrong.
In stolen hours and quiet corners of a keep built on secrets, something neither of them will name begins to grow teeth. Neither will speak the word first. Neither can afford to. But in a world where marriages are made for war and love is a luxury only the powerless can't afford, Daena and Jacaerys will learn that some fires cannot be smothered-only fed, in silence, until they burn everything they touch.
A slow burn tale of forbidden longing, political chains, and the cruelty of being born a Targaryen.
