Light is at a crossroads with his feelings for L: his true self loves him, but Kira wants him dead. While searching for the detective, he eventually finds him standing outside on the rooftop of the Kira task force's headquarters building, alone and seemingly depressed. Wanting to know what's wrong with the man, Light attempts to confront L about it only to receive a rather cryptic, vague response from him. Not only this, but Light soon learns that L may not be alive by the end of the day due to unforseen circumstances, and that if he wants to do something about it, it may mean giving up the very dream he's had since the first the day he picked up the Death Note.

"There's no security camera in here," Light said, his voice low, breathless, as his eyes locked onto L's. He had memorized every possible location--and this wasn't one of them. He wasn't sure what drove him-whether it was the secrecy of the moment, or the fact that L was the only one who had ever truly understood him. Or maybe it was because L saw him-not just as a suspect, but as an equal, an intellectual match. "No one's watching us." L's eyes widened slightly, his gaze sharp but curious as he observed Light's every move. "What are you doing, Light-kun?" he asked softly, though his voice lacked the usual edge. It wasn't a question of suspicion-it was one of intrigue, as if he wanted to see where this would lead.

sometimes it would be a few words drifting through the air in an extremely recognizable voice, maybe a paper falling from light's desk, although he knew he put it far enough from the corner that it could not have fallen. he didn't leave his window open, but sometimes a small breeze would pass by his face. he didn't enjoy sweets as much as a late friend of his, but sometimes he could smell candy so strong he would assume it was right in front of him. he never really enjoyed loud music with guitars, bass and synth keyboards but sometimes he would hear those songs from the corner of his room. he refused to mention it to anyone. he still disregarded it as a simple coincidence.
