To the outside world, Maysa's family was flawless. An elegant Arab father, a regal Nigerian mother-the kind of couple people admired at dinner parties and envied from afar. But behind closed doors, their marriage was already falling apart. When her father dies on her tenth birthday, the illusion vanishes with him.
Suddenly, Maysa becomes a stranger in both her worlds. Rejected by her father's people for being too dark, and never truly embraced by her mother's side for being too white, she grows up drifting in the in-between. And when her grieving mother turns bitter and cruel, home becomes the most dangerous place of all.
Maysa learns early: love is a lie, belonging is a myth, and silence is safety.
But then he shows up-kind, patient, unafraid of her shadows. He sees the walls she built, the cracks she hides. And for the first time, Maysa wonders: what if love isn't a weakness? What if home isn't a place, but a person?
Now she must face the hardest truth of all:
To be loved, she has to believe she's worthy of it.
