He loosens his grip from my waist and I begin to slip under. My faces scrunches up in discomfort, and he grabs a hold of me. He pulls me closer to him, our faces inches apart. "So you can't swim." He says, grinning. "No. I can't." I say. My eyes wander down towards his chest. I just now notice that he isn't wearing a shirt. I refocus my eyes back to his face, my cheeks getting hot. "We live in California. How do you not know how to swim? There are beaches everywhere." ___________________________________________ It was the last summer before college. For Rae, this meant making memories with her best friends and vacationing till she forgot the last four miserable years of high school. After taking school too seriously and planning all the right steps for college, Rae takes advantage of the time off. For Grayson, this last summer meant deciding if he really wants to spend the next four years being a star-athlete swimmer in college to please his overbearing father, or pursue his true passion of wildlife and spend the next year traveling the world. He takes a vacation with his friends to get away from it all, hoping he will get lay back and relax. When a boat ride and a crazy storm leave the two stranded on a deserted island, everything takes a turn for the worst. Rae and Grayson must adapt to the island around them and depend on each other for survival. Rae and Grayson always knew of each other, being friends of each other's friends, but never about each other. With Rae's panic and paranoia and Grayson's laid back outlook they might seem like an unlikely pairing, but the blazing sun and time away from the outside world just may bring them closer together. I chuckled slightly and shook my head. "Does that usually work for you? The cute little remarks and that nice smile." I teased. He gave me a sheepish look of surprise. "Most girls would be flattered at my attempt to flirt with them." I scoffed and shook my head. "Well, as a member of the "most girls" community, I can say that I am not." "Wow. That's a bit harsh." He gave me a smug look and crossed his arms. "Sorry," I shrugged. "I'm immune to boy charms. In fact, I think I'm allergic." "Well, don't think so highly of yourself. Just because you have cute dimples and a pretty face, doesn't mean I find you attractive." ------------------------------ Maya Cameron is a senior at Ohio State University and this is the year where you need to get your life together before you get pushed out into the real world. His brows furrowed in frustration. "You keep tensing up and it's making me lose my grip." I was tensing up because I didn't trust him. It didn't take a genius to know that. I hadn't been used to falling in a while. "You need to relax." He said looking me up and down. My jaw clenched. "Oh, so I'm the problem?" I crossed my arms. "You can't even lift me." I said raising my voice. This was never going to work. "I could if you'd stop shifting your weight." I rolled my eyes and shook my head. I was going to kill Jackson Nova. ------------------------------ Luna Martinez has been dancing for as long as she can remember. I clicked my feet on my board and stood tall, hands on my hips looking up at him. He was staring at me. Blinking and taking a step closer, he placed a hand on my waist, shocking me. Even through the thickness of my jacket, I felt the pressure of his hand. Looking at me dead in the eyes he said, "You're hips are angled a little off," Shifting my body slightly, he looked down at my feet. "And you've got to bend a bit more when you take off." He tapped at my knee and made me crouch slightly. I was listening but only partially because my heart beat seemed to be louder than his voice. "Got it?" He said catching my eye. "Mhhmm," I mumbled, trying to breathe slowly. *************************************** A girl, her snowboarding dreams, a 3 year long crush on her snowboarding guy best friend, an encounter with a famous snowboarding legend with a secret, an adorable small child, two best friends who'd kill for her, and the competition she's waited for her whole life.
