Seventeen-year-old Winter Chu has seen it all. Shrivelling sleep schedules, diets, his picture perfect mentor's booger, a fat zero in maths. You name it, he has seen it. Or that's what he likes to believe. Exactly why Winter cannot fathom how he failed to see how he could go from walking shoulder to shoulder with his best friend - scratch that, his ex-best friend - on the busy streets of Seoul while playfully burlesquing their mentor to running away from said best friend in the span of a single day. Or, how on the same day, he ended up moving in with three other kids who were as confused as him in a dorm that was whipped out by the mentor he had just burlesqued. Fast forward two years and Winter has made countless decisions in the span of it, some good and some equally bad. Bad being: completely erasing Liu Xuejun, his ex-best friend and everything that had to do with him from his life. So when Xuejun, now a rising star, slips back into his messy life from the shadows of busking crowds and in old sauna rooms, Winter has no choice but to go with the slippery flow. Even when his own debut is right around the corner. Even when his heart beats the wrong way for Xuejun every single time. Even when he knows none of this is a good idea. Listen, dreams are tricky things. But you know what, so are friendships. - rankings - #36 nanowrimo 17.03.2022 #36 talkthepoc 17.03.2022

Being pretty is a privilege. But why don't we acknowledge it? Dylan is the only coloured girl in her final year class. Growing up Asian in a white-dominant community warped her perceptions of beauty and she believes she could never be as 'pretty' as the tall thin non-coloured girls in her grade. Her mom often lectures her "Gwapa, you are beautiful just the way you are" before school and she KNOWS she'd be a sucker if she fell for another masculine white male who played sports - but deep down, Dylan feels she needs to do something about her low confidence. Whether it's to stop being afraid of the sun in fear of her skin getting darker, or to change her idea of success from 'how men see her' to 'how she sees herself', Dylan can't help but think if she's even pretty enough to do anything about it.

As far as lazy roommates go, Death is probably as bad as they come. Rosa Delgada only wants a nice, ordinary weekend. When some guy claiming to be the Reaper comes knocking on her door, any plans of normality are thrown straight out of the window. Now she's got to worry about Death sleeping on her sofa, the forces of evil hunting down her new roommate, and - worst of all - all the post-break-up comfort food she keeps eating. And to make matters worse, Death is almost certainly going to go down in the record books as being the universe's least helpful roommate. He may be a horseman of the apocalypse but he'll be damned if he doesn't do the dishes. But life's going to get a whole lot harder for Rosa. Death's sudden holiday is resulting in some grizzly repercussions, and now all of the Underworld is out to drag him back. There's only so far sarcasm and strawberry ice cream will get you.

A quiet afternoon is infinitely more interesting when you add a young man who claims to be a time-traveler, a half-completed shopping list, and an unhealthy amount of sarcasm. {Written 2014}
