The wedding was supposed to be the beginning of my sister - Anaya Raichand's happily ever after.
Until the groom stood up.
And pointed at me.
"Stop the wedding."
The mandap fell silent.
My sister stared at him, tears already gathering in her eyes.
My father rose from his seat. "Veer beta, what happened?"
Veer Kapoor-the man my sister was supposed to marry-didn't look at her.
He looked only at me - Aadhya Raichand.
I just returned from London.
I had never met him before tonight.
"I can't marry Anaya."
A collective gasp swept through the hall.
Then he said the words that shattered everything.
"Because I love Aadhya."
My heart stopped.
"What?"
I actually laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because surely this had to be some kind of terrible joke.
I stepped forward, my voice trembling with disbelief.
"I've never even spoken to you."
His eyes never left mine.
"Aadhya, baby, we should stop pretending."
"I have never seen you in my life!"
His jaw tightened.
Then, in front of both our families, hundreds of guests, and the sacred fire that had been prepared for my sister's wedding, he delivered the accusation that would turn my entire world upside down.
"She's carrying my child."
Silence.
Absolute, devastating silence.
My mother covered her mouth.
My father looked at me as if he no longer recognized his own daughter.
Anaya's face crumpled.
And me?
I couldn't breathe.
Because I knew the truth.
I had never loved Veer Kapoor.
I had never met him.
I had never belonged to him.
So why did he do this?
Why was he looking at me like I'd forgotten the greatest secret of my own life?
And why, when everyone believed his story-
did he look at me as though I was the only person he was trying to save?
He was supposed to marry my sister.
Instead, he claimed me as the woman he loved.
And now I have only one question left-
Who is Veer Kapoor really, and why did he choose me?
