The monotony of Varno, a quiet country village where nothing ever happens, is disrupted for eight young men who have just come of age when one of them proposes an idea. Andrea learns of a news event that took place in their municipality. In the village cemetery stands a house that, forty years earlier, was inhabited by the caretaker, his wife, and their only daughter. The caretaker was found hanged from a rafter in the hall, while his wife, daughter, and a school teacher of the latter were found butchered with axes in their rooms. After this tragedy, the house was abandoned, and the doors and windows were bricked up. The police closed the case, blaming the caretaker, who is believed to have taken his own life after the brutal massacre. Intrigued by the mystery and eager for adventure, the eight boys decide to enter the house. There, they find clues that seem to challenge the official version of events. However, their reckless stunt lands them in serious trouble, and the only way out is to uncover the truth. Aristide Armori, the last descendant of the wealthiest and oldest family in Varno, now lives and works as a bank manager in Mantua. After losing large sums of money due to poor investments, he makes a shocking decision: to enlist the help of a gang of professional robbers to carry out two heists against the very bank he manages. The gang soon finds themselves pursued by two skilled Carabinieri determined to uncover their identities. The fates of Armori, the boys from Varno, the Carabinieri, and other key characters become mysteriously intertwined. But what will be the final outcome of this intricate plot?
