At Willard's department store, none of the night security guards survive for long, and eighteen-year-old Daniel Gale is about to discover why. "At the heart of it, Night Shift is a haunting love story. It is equal parts moving and chilling, which is what makes it so excellent." - Carmen Ho @ HQ ***** Tired of living out of his backpack, Daniel ignores the rumors about the old building being haunted and accepts the latest vacated position of night guard at Willard's department store. As his life becomes more entwined with Willard's, Daniel senses unnatural changes and bizarre coincidences. Soon he begins to suspect Willard's is hiding something more sinister than gossip about ghosts - something that could make him the next casualty of the night shift. Samantha wishes she were someone else. Anastasia, to be exact. Anastasia doesn't sit in the corner and read because she's too shy to talk to anyone. She doesn't keep trying and failing. Anastasia slays dragons. Of course, Anastasia is only a character in Samantha's story. That's what Sam does, she writes. She writes to keep the monsters at bay. She creates new worlds to escape into. And she writes to block out the cranky ramblings of her jilted father, who refuses to acknowledge the woman that ran out on them years ago. But Samantha finds herself thrown into a not so magical adventure when she discovers her long lost mother has been in town all along. She has questions that need answering, and a few arrow- accusations... she'd like to sling. But there are obstacles to storming the castle, her father for one. Either Samantha makes this her happily ever after, or it all ends in tears... Either way, the story is about to change.

(This is the book 2 of POE chronicles - please check out book 1 Evolution first ) Evolution had created us. Allowed us to be different, given us a chance to survive outside the walls of Citybases. But evolution had also made them. They might not be as intelligent as we are, but nature is on their side this time around. This is a game of survival; a game to see who adapt faster and grow stronger. You have no idea who your enemies are or what to believe. All you can do is try your best to stay alive. Nature only favours those with the right adaptation, ruthlessly eliminating the rest. Nature will make you. It will also break you. Only the fittest survive. Plan A might have been just as dangerous as the police insisted it was safe. It involved being locked away, out of sight and communication, and didn't solve the problem that Fran's stalkers seemed to have access to police files and data. Plan B the police didn't know about, and while the stalkers were at least temporarily out of the picture, it posed other problems. The police are now searching for her. Her stalkers are still looking for her. Her roommate doesn't know she's not a boy and a depressed teen movie star wants to be her friend. Being found out would blow her safety. Not to mention that the country thinks she might just be the victim -- or the cause -- of a spate of murders in the surrounding towns. Going to Darkwood private school was a risk, but not as risky as Plan A. The worry of trying to keep herself hidden from her schoolmates might become her main problem, but it still doesn't answer the most worrying question of all: just who were those stalkers, and what did they want? -- (Just so you all know, I've entered this book for the Hotkey Young Writers Prize. It would mean the world to me if you could support Plan B by voting for the first chapter (only votes on the first chapter count) before September 13th and then encouraging as many people as possible to read and vote as well. Thank you all so much!)

Rose thought she was an un-awkward, high school teenager. Keyword: Thought. She had her own personal problems: homework, hormones, family complications, the brat—the list goes on. But her life takes a complete one-eighty when she participates in a round of truth or dare with her close, differentiating friends. Being dared to sneak into the chemistry lab and taking a photo as proof couldn't possibly change a person's life completely, right? Well, when she wakes up the next morning and atypical incidents start occurring such as objects floating, bursting, crashing, having visions of crimes and she seems to not have the ability to hurt herself, something's up. Rose soon discovers she has superhuman abilities and has to learn about her strengths, weaknesses, talents, and of course, how to keep it a secret. She redefines herself by creating a new identity she soon calls, Thalia. But remember: Every superhero has an arch enemy. . . or ten. Cover by me.

Jasslyn Brookside has always harboured a curiosity for her childhood friend. She can't be blamed: Jacoby Harold is constantly trailed by flowers and plants, the occasional balloon or firework. He isn't the only one. From the day Jasslyn could form the thought that this was out of the ordinary, she has seen others like him. Men who stand like statues, as if hoping no one would see them. Women who walk around pretending nothing is wrong while vines as thick as pythons slither after them. After a chance encounter with two reportedly "missing" people, Jasslyn realizes that her past and future are more entwined with Jacoby's than she ever imagined. When she finds out the extent to which their paths cross, a message becomes clear to her: to delve too deep into Jacoby's world would mean unearthing secrets she would be safer without.
