Aeris, a once-naïve mage who had accepted to have her powers hidden by the Magic Government for protection, soon discovers how mistaken she was. Betrayed by people she trusted and hounded by the cult known as the Broken Star for years, she becomes their target after consistently refusing their request to join. When they strike, Aeris expects death-yet fate has other plans. Instead of perishing, she awakens in the depths of a strange forest, her body bruised from an attack by a mystical beast. Soon, she finds herself stranded in the Nemophilist Forest, a notorious wilderness on an island owned by the Hunter Association, where only the fittest survive the cruel selection trials. These trials are designed to test every boundary, subjecting participants to terrible physical and magical challenges, forcing them to face their deepest fears, and often resulting in death for all but the most hardy. Here, Aeris finds a peculiar man-Luther, a mystery figure with an unlimited energy source rushing through his body, making him an ideal and irresistible "food tanker" for her. His inexhaustible energy reservoirs can finally fulfill her devouring powers, which leave her eternally hungry and restless. What begins as an instinctual pursuit to keep him healthy and feed her ravenous desire soon grows into a far wider journey. As Aeris and Luther traverse the increasingly deadly trials, they unearth secret truths-about Luther's history, the diabolical conspiracy behind the Broken Star's strike, and the far-reaching power struggles governing the world. The world is darker and more intricate than Aeris had ever imagined. The legends and whispers she once thought were simply tales are becoming horrifying realities, and every new secret she finds only links her more to the webs of a conspiracy that threatens all she holds dear. Can Aeris escape the sinister plan around her, or will her need for answers and Luther's energy lead her to become a pawn in a far greater, more lethal game?
