ONC2026 Spring #3 Prompt: The daughter of the most powerful witch is nothing like her mother. * * * Elowen Sage is the daughter of the most beloved and powerful witch in Seren. She also hates nothing more than becoming just like her. To everyone's despair, her mother meets her untimely demise at the hands of a cult that's hell-bent on reviving Wiktor, a not-so-ancient evil that sparked the Great War more than a hundred years ago. Thus forcing Elowen, the last one left in their bloodline, to shoulder the fate of all of Seren, and maybe even the world beyond. So now, she either has to bear a crown she never asked for or go down in history as the wretched traitor who delighted in feeding everyone to the monster. Just her luck. With no reputation of her own to uphold, the only reason Elowen even bothers to take up her mother's torch is to save a little friend spirited away by Wiktor's cult. But she can't deny the very magic running in her veins forever. Enlisted into a secret team of scholars far more talented and devoted to the cause than she is, all the while being made to retrace all the places her mother has touched, Elowen may just find that which bitterly binds them after all. Crowned at the age of nine, Freya is the queen of the wintry kingdom of Onttohalla. Until she isn't. To rectify the wrongs of her ancestors, Freya abandons the throne and journeys across the treacherous great unknown, bound for the resting place of the wrathful goddess Arianwen, ultimately facing herself. Left behind at home is her younger sister, Rieka, who struggles filling the gap that Freya's absence has caused. When she receives a message from her sister for the first time in two years, it's a last wish that Rieka must answer by unsealing the forbidden power in her and putting an end to their empire once and for all. Hell-bent on rejecting what fate has in store for them, this is a tale recounting the parallel paths that two different sisters have taken, against forces of nature and the state of the world, all for the sake of the only thing they've ever known: family, both given and found.
