Isak Enquist is afraid to sleep. When he does, he never knows where he'll wake up or how much time has passed. Months can pass in hours. The people around Isak believe it's all in his head, that what he can do isn't possible. He insists that he's pulled across time and worlds as he dreams.
Charzaphir Simnaril is a warrior and weapon used by his brother to keep the local populace cowed. When he comes across Isak, he dismisses him as a spy and sends him to the dungeons thinking that he's done with him. However, when his brother forces him to handle a work detail, Charzaphir discovers Isak is part of it. Isak, who can't hold a sword and acts as though he can't understand the language. Isak, who has secrets that he's not sharing. Isak, the one he has an undeniable connection to whenever he's near.
