Nico finally gets out of that weird hotel, only for everything to be different. There are a lot more lights, and everyone is staring at this tiny screen, and the weird lawyer lady is watching him now. His dad visits sometimes, but not enough. His sister is growing distant, which makes sense, she had her own life. It still hurt sometimes though. Then things start to change. He meets the Waynes, for one. Gotham is a big scary place, when he's allowed out into it, but they're nice. And their dad is funny. A lot funnier than his dad.(Don't tell Hades he said that. Ms. Alecto keeps saying he'd smite Nico. Nico didn't believe it, but still.) So yeah. Gotham is fine. His life is... nice. Even when the lights flicker because Bianca is yelling at him, then Ms. Alecto gets mad at her for not controlling her emotions. Even when he's allowed to go outside and he sees ghosts. He doesn't tell Ms. Alecto about that, he doesn't want her to get mad at him. Everything is fine. Then these weird people started coming around their house, and Ms. Alecto started telling them to stay out of the house. Where were they supposed to go? Bianca says the library. But Nico kinda wants to visit their neighbors next door. They seem nice. Not weird at all. Somehow, he finds himself being fostered by Bruce Wayne. It's only temporary and Nico intends to keep it that way. The only problem is that there are many things Nico can't explain, like his past, how he learned how to fight, why he needs to know how to fight, and why strange things keep happening around him. How can Nico keep his stay at the manor temporary if things keep happening that just ensures Bruce Wayne will want to keep an eye on him?

Nico attempts a long-distance shadow-travel to visit Hazel, but his powers falter due to lingering exhaustion and the sheer emotional toll of the wars. Instead of Camp Jupiter, he lands in a dark, unfamiliar alleyway in a city unlike any he's known: Gotham. The sheer density of human despair and darkness in Gotham is overwhelming, almost physically painful for him. He encounters petty criminals or a low-level gang, instinctively using his powers to defend himself, but he's disoriented and vulnerable.
