After a staged attempt to assassinate the king by their stepfather; Simon Micro Technic and his brother (Nano) are separated from the rest of their family to live as orphans under the care of a shoemaker.
This story begins in Lyon, a poorly bordered country in the world of Nak (so named after the giant serpents of lore). While the world has seen many technological advances, Lyon's resources are limited, and the kingdom prioritizes conserving their environment. Most of the electricity and internet are centralized in and around the big cities, but when their parents are taken, the orphaned princes are sent to a remote village, where the conveniences vary by household.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. The shoemaker and his son (Inori), along with teachers and guards, are tasked with guiding these boys to forget they ever could be rivals to the throne.
