The story begins in the Imperial court of Ancient China where Jiang Princess Yanli is married off to the Lan Prefecture under the jurisdiction of the crown prince Lan Xichen. In her entourage of female servants is Wei Wuxian a male accompanied by an instruction from the Jiang empress to be castrated for service to the Jiang Princess.
