Twelve years have passed since humans burned Lunesca's home to ashes, leaving her the last surviving nymph on Eldryth Island. Growing up in complete solitude, she tries her best to fill her life with small joys such as picking flowers, stringing sea shells into necklaces and making pretend conversation with the forest animals. Still, nothing can distract her from the aching loneliness that hangs heavy and relentless in her chest. Everything changes, however, the day a lifeboat washes up on the beach carrying a gravely injured soldier. Torn between her fear of humans and her yearning for companionship, Lunesca saves his life but maintains a cautious distance. Despite Cade's best efforts to coax her out of her shell, she remains shy and timid. Little does he suspect that she's secretly scheming up ways to trap him on this island forever until it's too late. He soon learns that underneath that shy exterior all along was just a silly (and admittedly endearing) little trickster who's been starved of friendship for far too long.
