"Don't be afraid" Calyx whispered to me. I looked at her and she grinned toothily. My lip quivered. "Its ok." She gripped me in a rough squeeze, her childish hands wrapped around my torso. The tall man said we were going to a revolutionary place, I wanted to time travel, just not yet. Calyx plunked down beside me. The man came back in and stood in front of the crate with the children cooped inside. "Roll Call!" He shouted, to let all the children know. He quickly listed some, but I was to terrified to catch all of them. " Flora Alder?" "Here!" Cried a wobbly voice. "Seneca Sparrow?" A brave boys voice sounded above the nervous chatter. "Here!" "Delphine Bay?" A girl in the crate with us sat up abruptly and shouted "Here!" "Iris Lark?" Silence. "IRIS LARK?" "Here." A stunned voice mumbled. "Calyx Hawthorne?" "HERE!" She shouted, a sudden burst of confidence. "Arrush Casi?" "Here" I mumbled. The man walked back to the front. After a long period of time, we stopped. "We're here!"

"B-but Brandon, I want to stay with you!" I sob pushing the CPS workers away. I hug him in a tight squeeze with so much going through my head. He grabs my shoulders and looks at me in the eyes. "Harper, I'm going to be 18 soon, I'll be outta that place before you know it and then I will be right there to get you! All you have to do is hold on and wait, promise me you'll hold on!" He nearly shouts slightly shaking me. He breaks down into a sob and hugs me again. I tighten my arms around him taking in the last moment we will see each other for a long time. "I will be back for you, that's a promise." Brandon whispers calming down. The CPS people, getting impatient, walk over to separate us. They push him into the back of there car and me into another. I quietly cry as they drive away. I see a glimpse of Brandon in the back seat as he has now put on a straight face, hiding his emotions. The CPS, with me, pulls out from behind the building and turns onto the highway.

It was pitch black wherever I was. The strong scent of spoiled meat riddles the damp air. "Hello?" I call out, my bark echoing off of the alley walls. I hear soft paw steps and feel a heavy presence some where near me. Fear burns it's way up my chest. "Vee" Says an eerily familiar voice. I swallow down my fear. This is the end. My heart pounds in my ears as they swivel towards the voice. "I'm sorry!" My plead is a mere whisper lost in the sudden intensity of rain pouring down on us from above. "It's too late" The canine growls through exposed teeth. His heavy breathing becomes apparent behind me. The muddy dirt tenses with his every paw step. "I'm sorry" I whisper, right before I lunge.
