Newt isn't like the others; he can remember the nightmares of his past. As the weeks drag by, the memories that were supposed to be taken from him by WICKED begin to surface, creating a clearer image of who he is, why he was taken and what role he plays in this messed up game of Life and Death. The Gladers place their hope in Newt, believing that his ability to remember will help them find a way to escape the confinements of WICKED... But the more he remembers the more he starts to understand why he chose to forget. Because life before the Maze wasn't all fun and games either-especially since the only person Newt ever trusted might be the one who put him here in the first place. Thomas. [EDIT 1] My work is currently undergoing some revisions. I wrote this 5 years ago, and needless to say, some of the dialogue, scenes, wording, and overall feel is quite childish. Not all of it, but some of it. I've decided to revisit my original first story and make it better. The story is definitely much more mature now, and I think everyone will enjoy it better now that the tone has changed to fit the melancholy nature of my story. Thanks in advance. Thomas gets a chance at redemption when he is offered a seemingly impossible task: plant an idea in someone's mind. If he succeeds, Thomas and his fellow gladers will have succeeded in bringing back a long lost friend. But a dangerous enemy anticipates his every move.

Thomas and Newt decide to meet up, with some other friends, and investigate an abandoned building out in the middle of nowhere. The idea was Thomas' but if he'd known what was to come, both good and very, very bad, he may never have asked anyone to go. That would mean all of the close moments the two boys shared, like when they had lent in to kiss, would never have happened. The question was, would it have been worth it to call the whole trip off, when it would prevent Newt and Thomas from falling for each other but also stop the storm from causing so much pain for the boys? Then a girl arrives with a message, saying everything is going to change. And the fight to get out of there becomes much more important.
