Everything was going fine in the rebellion until the prince showed up. Or, according to the leader at least. Prince William claimed to "know intel about the enemies" and "be able to fight" and "not have a crush on the injured soldier boy he found on the journey." Yeah, right, Will. You keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile, Nico--Soldier 1017--is only trying to survive the night. With nothing and no one to save him from his upcoming execution for failing to follow orders, Nico's future looks pretty bleak. A raid and a rebellion bring them together. Every day they fight their pasts and their futures, and every day they promise to each other that they will make it to the sun, to the stars, and to the sky. Edited January 2024. Enjoy! / WPOV- I watched in awe as the carriage door opened and the guards carelessly hefted a small boy out. He appeared to be unconscious and I panicked when I saw the blood dripping from his jet black hair. "Be careful with him! He's hurt!" I yelled. They only shrugged and placed the boy in my arms. My heart surged. After one look at him, I saw how completely beautiful he was. \ NPOV- I scrambled to my feet, terrified of what the prince would do with me, but my head pounded and I felt my legs shake and give out. I shut my eyes tight as I started to fall, but just before I hit the ground, a pair of strong, but gentle arms wrapped around me, yet again. I opened my eyes to see the Prince's worried eyes as he held me steady in his arms.

In this AU, Nico is a prince who has befriended the young merboy, Will. When his sister dies and he blames himself, he finds himself pushing Will away to the point where he forgets he ever existed, his mind convincing him his mermaid friend was just a figment of his imagination. Besides, mermaids aren't real, right? This thought gets tested eight years later when Nico has run away from home to sail the seas with a group of other runaways. First, thank you guys so much for all the love and support on Monster Benath The Surface! It really does mean a lot and is the reason I've started writing it's sequel. <3 ---------- Will made a promise to help Nico get rid of his curse; the curse that ruined his life and many others. What was once the terrifying, vicious, and unspeakable sea monster is truly just a lonely boy who's life was changed by something he can't control. But for some reason just being around him, Will makes it seem like everything is going to be alright. How will Will and Nico find a cure for this seemingly incurable curse? And will they uncover their feelings for one another before it's too late? But of course they'll find a way, I mean, they are each other's angels on Earth.

Everyone in town knows about the sea monster. Every night, he goes into town to find his prey. He lures them in with his voice, only to bring them back to the ocean, to eat them. Few survive this, and the people who do, they lose their mind, like they were cursed. You can only gather from them that he was beautiful, his voice was like an angel's, and that when he took you into the ocean, he became a monster. He only hunted young men, women, teens, and the occasional twelve-year old. It was terrifying, because the people had no way to stop him. Every night, someone would go missing, or come back insane. They knew he lived in the ocean, and when people tried to bomb the area where they thought the monster lived, they would either be cursed, or just eaten by the sea monster himself. And the people who came back insane, they would always wander over the fact that the monster had not even a scratch on him. Teens, young men and women would fear for their lives, and lock themselves in their houses at night. But only one person refused to hide, either in bravery or utter stupidity. That person was Will Solace. So basically, this story is based on the cover art of the book. I just thought it was such a great idea and wanted to put it to story. I saw another person do this and they used the same cover art, and I hope you guys like my version! I, personally very much like it and hope you guys do to! nico's a demon, will's an angel, and they fall in love during a war. what could possibly go wrong? intentional lowercase for the description; the actual fic has proper capitalization. the writing is pretty bad and the plot is all over the place but it's cutesy sometimes so knock yourselves out. if swearing bothers you, skip the author's notes because i swear sometimes. the actual fic has no strong language.

The war hadn't gotten any easier, and his life had only gotten harder. It was obvious the Olympians were desperate. After the Ereban King, Nico's father, had obtained the weapon of the historical king Hades, they'd been decimating the Olympian and Atlantean forces. There was no way they'd win this war without heavy bloodshed and a miracle. So they did the only thing they could. They called for a cease fire, for a stop to the bloodshed, in return for the return of the Ereban princess, Hazel Levesque. So here they were, meeting on the border. Nico is seeing faces he hasn't let himself dream about for what feels like years. He's changed; all the progress Will and his friends had made in the time they were with Nico had disappeared. He'd been angry for a long time, but there was only so much you could do when you're angry at someone you can't do anything to. Nico, hostage of the king, forced into this war that Will knew he didn't want to be a part of. Will would do anything to get him back, because he couldn't let King Hades take someone else from him.
