"I won't waste my sword fighting you myself," Valeskar rasped, voice like gravel. "I've done my share of bloodletting. Now, my son the crown prince will take my place."

The air shifted in the battlefield.
From the silver camp, a young man stepped forward through the fog. He walked with lethal poise tall, firm-jawed, shoulders squared like royalty raised in war. His armor shimmered faintly beneath a cloak lined in frost-grey fur.
But it wasn't the posture that shattered Nani's world.
It was his face.
The same honeyed skin. The same soft dimples. The same messy, chestnut-brown hair curling at the ends. The very same downturned eyes that sparkled even when narrowed with focus. That face a mirror of a memory. A soul reborn.

Variel's voice dropped to a breathless hush, like speaking the truth too loud might wake a sleeping god.
