Read about your favourite Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits and Humans, with maybe a wizard and dragon thrown in for good measure. Thorin Oakenshield has a guardian angel of sorts, only he doesn't know it. Yet. After breaking up a fight between Thorin and another man, Seren Gilwynn vowed to watch over the dwarf prince for the rest of her days. She never thought both Dale and Erebor were on the threshold of being destroyed by Smaug the dragon, with dwarves and men scattered about Middle Earth. Bounced from place to place, Seren has learned everything she could about weapons and fighting, with her promise to keep watch always in the back of her mind. And when she finally tracks Thorin down, she fully intends to keep that promise. Thorin, however, has different plans. He is on his way to the town of Bree, in search of his own father, Thráin, who has been missing for years. When exiled Elf Ariel Greenleaf is found unconscious just beyond the borders of Mirkwood by the Company, they are ready to dispatch her without hesitation. On a rainy night, Emeryn seeks out Thorin Oakenshield at the Prancing Pony. Having been sent by Gandalf himself, she convinces the Prince to reclaim his homeland and slay the dragon Smaug. Emeryn, thirteen dwarves, a hobbit and a wizard embark on an adventurous journey full of dangers and...love?

When he puts himself between the Uruk-hai and Merry and Pippin, Boromir knew it means sacrificing himself. But it also means redemption for his near betrayal of Frodo and the Fellowship, and so is a price he is more than willing to pay. Kaia has been on her own for as long as she can remember, having escaped a terrible life in a village not far from Mordor. When she hears the sounds of battle, she knows what it means and when she ventured forth and finds a gravely wounded man lying amongst the leaves and debris, she takes him in, not knowing he is actually the son of the steward of Gondor. Angry at himself and faced with a long road to recovery, Boromir does not make things easy on Kaia and it is only through her own sheer will that she does not give into the urge to hit him over the head with something on a daily basis. That refusal to give up brings about changes neither one of them could have foreseen. She just wanted to save him. She never thought he would save her in return...

Bilbo Baggins isn't the only unexpected member of Thorin Oakenshield's company. Another is recruited by the Grey Wizard who believes that she may hold the key to the company's success in their quest to reclaim the lost kingdom of Erebor.
