Goldenstar padded out of his den. The early dawn light spilled through the clouds and onto his browny-gold pelt, warming him up as he looked over his clan mates waking. It had only been a few moons since he became Goldenstar. It was the day after tragedy stuck. His father, Brownpelt, was killed. He frowned as he looked at his mother, her head down, looking at the growing grass. She looked up at him. He quickly smiled back. She smiled too, but her heat didn't seem to. Her eyes fell to the ground again. 'Would she be happy for me if Brownpelt didn't die?' The new leader wondered. " Goldenstar " a voice beside him said, snatching his attention towards the cat. It was the new deputy, Featherflight. The she-cat's sky blue eyes shone in the pale dawn light. " Should I gather the hunting patrol? " She asked. " Yes, please do. " Goldenstar replied. He looked at his lonely mother again, wondering if she would ever be happy again. 'Brownpelt, I will avenge you, whether I die trying to or not.'
