Aine Martins, a 22-year-old half-Black Literature student at NYU, thinks her day can't get any worse-until a speeding luxury car splashes her with filthy water. As luck would have it, the reckless driver is Alden Yun, NYU's favorite basketball star and a mysterious grad transfer with a face made for magazine covers.
What starts as a confrontation spirals into chaos when Aine is forced to interview him for a class project. Then, her long-time nemesis, Elowen Thaddeus, queen bee of NYU's top sorority, strikes. Elowen posts a cropped video of Aine's cousins beating up a racist white student, painting Aine as the aggressor and thrusting her into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
As Aine grapples with her sudden and controversial fame coupled with past trauma, she finds an unexpected ally in Alden. As the world watches and the pressure mounts, Alden's quiet support begins to unravel her walls-and maybe even her heart.
But with secrets, fame, and feuds closing in, Aine has to decide: will she fight back, or fade into the narrative others have written for her?
