It's pitch black outside and not even the bright headlights of my car can shed enough light for me to see where I am going.
I am completely and utterly lost.
And it doesn't help that it's almost 4:00 in the morning and I'm driving on an abandoned road with tears streaking my face.
I should have never moved to this dumbass town.
I should have never dated the popular guy in my school that's known for screwing with women's emotions.
I shouldn't even be driving this late at night and in a place I'm unfamiliar with.
I slow down when I see that a large bridge is coming up. The thing looks unsafe. All I can see is what my headlights will let me see, since there isn't any streetlights around.
Suddenly, a large, black mass comes whipping in front of my car.
I hit the amorphous being against the front of my Mazda, making the car spin dramatically forward.
I squeeze onto the wheel, waiting for pieces of glass to cut my skin and for a concussion or possibly death to come.
But death nor a concussion, come.
My head still spins, even though the car is at a complete stop. I finally let go of the wheel, afraid if I squeeze any tighter, the tips of my bony knuckles will pop out of my skin.
I take deep breathes and step out of my vehicle.
I first look around for any sign of a human or animal I may have hit. When I see nor hear anything, I look at the damage done to my car. The front, right side of my car is dented in.
I run to the backseat of the car and grab a small flashlight from the pocket behind the passenger's seat. I flip the switch on and look under the car to see...
This animal, this beast, in pain. It's crippled up, blood soaking it's fur and the gravel road around it.
I look around. I'm absolutely alone, surrounded by nothing but trees and a river streaming calmly under the bridge. I reach into the back pocket of my jeans, but feel nothing but the thin fabric.
Where's my phone?
But then I remember...
I threw it at my asshole-of-a-boyfriend's head.
