Ever find yourself so buried in work and life's chaos that you accidentally neglect someone incredibly important? That's exactly where we find the woman in this story. She's completely swamped-her house is a disaster, her husband is cold and distant, and she's chained to her desk, looking miserable. She's so lost in the "busyness" that she's forgotten how to live. Everything changes when she stumbles upon an old red journal. It was a gift from her best friend years ago, and reading the poems and memories inside is like a jolt to her heart. A secret message on the final page, which she'd never seen before, makes her realise just how much she's let a precious connection fade away... This story was written in response to a prompt from Reedsy Prompts. The prompt that inspired this piece was: " Center your story around a character who yearns for someone or something they've lost - or never had."
