Miu didn't believe in lightning strikes until she saw the silver SUV pull into the driveway.
Her dad had talked about "Sarah and her daughter" for months. He talked about "blended families" and "fresh starts." Miu had tuned it all out, leaning against the doorframe of their new house with her headphones on, ready to be bored.
Then, the passenger door opened.
Lena stepped out. She was wearing a simple white tank top and denim shorts, her hair caught in a messy clip. She looked up at the house, squinting against the sun, and then her eyes landed on Miu. She waved-a bright, easy, "sisterly" wave.
In that second, the air left Miu's lungs. It wasn't just that Lena was beautiful, it was the way she owned the space around her. Miu felt a terrifying, magnetic pull in her chest.
Oh no, Miu thought, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. I'm supposed to call her my sister. But all I want to do is ruin her.
