Thomas was eleven years old and going into sixth grade when he moved to Hawkins, Indiana. He has a process for every time he moves. Step one, find the biggest bully at the school. Step two, punch him in the face. Step three, get left alone by everyone. Step four, live as peacefully as possible until he leaves again. Step five, try not to make any friends so he doesn't hurt them and himself when he inevitably leaves once again. Little did he know he would fail step five so horribly that he would not only make friends, but he would meet someone who he would want to be more, and he never would've suspected that he would find that person in his best friend, and neighbor, William Byers. Things go haywire when Will disappears, missing without a trace. Thomas has to cope with losing someone who had quickly become one of the, if not the single, most important person in his life.
