What begins as a simple family trip soon unfolds into a journey of transformation. Accompanied by my husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and her two little ones, I set out for the sacred shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, and the mystical Mana Village - the first village of India. What I thought would be just another travel experience turned into something far more profound. Amidst the towering Himalayas, the chants of pilgrims, and the serene silence of the mountains, I discovered a world that awakened my spirit. Each step on this path felt like walking closer to the divine, and each moment revealed new layers of faith, strength, and self-discovery. This book is more than a travel memoir - it is a heartfelt reflection on how an unexpected trip touched my soul, shifted my perspective, and filled my life with bliss and clarity. Through my words, I invite you to walk with me, to feel the chill of the Himalayan winds, to hear the whispers of the gods, and to witness the beauty of a journey that changed me forever.

"I Left Home for a Reason" is not a story about airports or new addresses. It's about the invisible weight of goodbye, the quiet violence of reinvention, and the strange, sacred process of becoming someone new in a place that doesn't know your name. In these chapters, I stitch together fragments of my life as an immigrant - with all its beauty, absurdity, grief, and grace. It's a story told through memory and metaphor, through poetic truths that sometimes say more than facts ever could. This book is for the ones who had to leave to find themselves. For those who smile in two languages but cry in one. For anyone who knows the ache of wanting to go back, even when you know you can't - because you aren't the same. Raw, reflective, and occasionally hilarious in that bittersweet way life tends to be, "I Left Home for a Reason" invites you to look at immigration not as a journey across maps, but as a quiet revolution of the soul.

So when James Bancroft, an outsider, makes his disdain for her clear in front of everyone in town, she knows that keeping her distance is the only option. She cannot afford to lose the crucial support she has garnered. The only problem is that the damned man can't seem to stay away from her now. After badmouthing a beloved pillar of the community at a dance, he knows he must make amends, and quickly. But the more he tries to make things right with the morbid Miss Lockwood, the more she pulls away. As his passion toward her grows, he finds himself unable to cope with his newfound feelings. After all, he knows quite well what it looks like when a man does not control himself. Vibes: Foggy moors, folklore, small rural community Tropes: *Overheard *Grovel *Cynical hero Trigger Warnings: Scenes of domestic violence, scenes of dog attacks, scenes of animal slaughtering/death *Though this book is set in the same universe as the Gentleman's Proposal series, it is largely unrelated to the other books. Therefore, I have chosen to list it as a standalone.*
