System: Countdown beginning. Upon death, your $30M reward transfers to your real-world account. Thank you for your 10 years of service.]
Standing on the railing, the cold rain drenching my skin, I mentally prepared to jump. My role as a tragic side character was finally over.
Goodbye.
I let my body fall forward, never expecting an unpredictable variable to shatter my perfect exit strategy. Suddenly, a strong grip clamped around my wrist and violently yanked me back.
"Chris..." The name slipped out as I looked up at him.
"What do you think you were doing?" His voice, usually frozen, cracked with a rare hint of panic.
[10, 9, 8...]
The System's mechanical voice snapped me back to reality. If I didn't die today, my final chance to return home would be gone forever. Shoving him away with everything I had, I scrambled toward the edge again. But his brutal strength was overwhelming; he struck me across the face to force me out of my hysteria.
[System: 3... 2... 1... Mission failed. Exit portal closed.]
Watching my only ticket to freedom vanish into thin air, I completely lost my mind.
"What more do you want from me?!" I screamed. "You and your sister already got everything you wanted! Why can't you just let me die in peace?!"
"Because you belong to me now," he whispered, an icy danger in his voice as he gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him. "Until I allow it, you don't even have the right to end your life."
Tears spilled over my cheeks, bitter regret burning in my chest. If only I had jumped a second earlier. But he completely misunderstood my despair.
"Don't forget, you are Aryan Chris now," he sneered. "So stop wasting your tears on another woman's husband."
I scoffed. "Don't try to act like my husband, it only disgusts me. What I have towards you is simply hatred... and it will never change."
That night, with the survival of the side character the written fate of this world changed. And our story began.
