Based on page 333 of "The Assassin's Blade" by Sarah J Maas
I was recently re-reading "The Assassin's Blade" and a line that Sam says to Celaena on page 333 made me think about how love like that can transcend death. Short story exploring Sam's spirit being present throughout events following "The Assassin's Blade."

Arobynn has threatened to kill Celaena if Sam doesn't do one more job for him.
But could he trust Arobynn? Definitely not, he knew that much. But when he returned to the apartment Celaena had been gone just like Arobynn claimed she would.
So Sam was forced to travel to a faraway continent to gather information on a highly respected family. To him that was a small price to pay if it meant that he and Celaena could move on with their lives and forever leave the Guild and Arobynn behind.
Meanwhile back in Rifthold, unbeknownst to him, Arobynn has faked Sam's death and Celaena was shipped off to Endovier. Lying to them both.
Years pass and Sam suddenly stumbles upon someone he least expected to meet.

They will need to learn to trust each other and quickly in order to make it to Orynth alive with strange men who seem to try to kill them at every turn.

Sam wasn't killed he was taken prisoner by Arobynn Hamel and Celaena thinks he is dead. When he finds out she is alive be escapes and is put into the competition for a place to be one of the king's champions.
