Princeytron
Konoha Prodigies. Konoha calls a child a Prodigy when the rules stop applying to what they can do- and, too often, to what may be done to them.
Ren Yamanaka is, fortunately or unfortunately, one of these select few prodigies. Ren is born in Konoha Year 48, during the uneasy lead-up to the Third Shinobi War. He is born with a very particular ability that elevates him among his clan; he is the world's first true, always-on telepath. Ren poseses a constant sense of mental surface thoughts, intentions, feelings, beliefs, etc. This is not god mode, but it does give him an immense advantage.
Ren's character asks; what happens when you give a clan already pants-shittingly terriftying already, with their understanding of minds, personalities, development, counter-intelligence, and such things, and gave them a shot at the roulette wheel of Konoha Prodigy. Ren's only restraint is his strong moral compass and sense of empathy.
Ren meets Shisui Uchiha at six years old - first day of the academy - and forms a bond as the first person who both understands what it is to be a prodigy-alien-child and actively encourages contact with Ren's telepathy. Through Shisui, Ren encounters Itachi, someone who becomes a central primary bond. Forced conscription into the Third war, towards the closing months of it, is formative for the trio. This eventually brings them into contact with Kakashi and Tenzou; culminating in a new team being formed from the ashes of the 9 tails attack; Team Ro.
Watch a Shinobi with the exact ethical guidelines and meaningful power to act shape canon events into a very unapologetic eventual AU. The Prodigy Exception is primarily a story about Ren, Team Ro, the children Konoha labels as prodigies, and the difference between being extraordinary and being invincible.
