The chances of individuals who are fated to cross paths in this vast world is a mere one in seven billion. In that rare change, just moments before a catastrophic explosion, the lives of Song Ran, a news reporter, and Li Zan, an explosive engineer, become suddenly intertwined by a red thread. Through moments of danger, where it seems as though everything could been blown up, or the ensuing traumas, they remain steadfast in their silent support and protection of one another. On the ruined land by bombs and bullets, he shows her the white olive tree. That white color symbolizes tragedy and loss, but is also the color of tenderness and purity, like their love. "The white olive tree under the clear blue sky, and with them being together proves that everything is not a dream." Have you ever thought what can you do in five seconds? Pour a cup of water, take a walk, say what you want to say, read a page of a book? In five seconds, my heart fills with your image. It's me, I'm Ran-Ran. No one is a lonely island, except for you. That day, through the window, he saw a white olive tree on that vast and empty field. I have been to many places and met a lot of faces, but you are the gentlest soul in my heart. - *Author's note: The countries, regions, and people involved in this novel are purely fiction, not based on any real events or people. *Translator's note: This is not my original work, I'm just translating this novel to the best of my ability to bring this novel to interested readers. "Through the Fire and the Stars" (A "The White Olive Tree" Fan Fiction - 40k+ words, One Shot) This fan fiction was born out of heartbreak. Watching The White Olive Tree Episode 38 and witnessing Benjamin's tragic fate left me devastated. I couldn't accept it. So, with all my limitations, I decided to rewrite his story-to give him the happy ending he was robbed of. Set in a war-torn world, this story follows Benjamin, a reckless yet fiercely loyal soldier, and Sa Xin, a former journalist who traded his pen for a rifle. Bound by a promise and tested by endless battles, they navigate the brutal realities of war, their growing feelings, and the unspoken emotions lingering between them. From deadly missions to moments of quiet tenderness, their relationship is a slow burn of bickering, teasing, and unshakable devotion-even when Benjamin remains oblivious to his own heart. As the war escalates, sacrifices are made, truths are confronted, and their bond is pushed to its limits. This is an Alternate Universe (AU) with a military setting. While some elements may resemble the original story, many things have changed. It's far from canon. The plot is a mess, often repetitive, filled with plot holes, and painfully slow-burn. The characters might feel OOC (Out of Character), and at times, the writing might be frustrating. I know this fan fiction isn't perfect. Maybe it's even bad or annoying to some. But honestly? I don't care. I'm not a professional writer, and I never intended this to be flawless. I wrote this simply because I couldn't bear to see Benjamin's story end in tragedy. And because there are barely any fan fictions about this pair-less than ten, seriously?-I decided to create one myself. If nothing else, at least here, Benjamin gets to live.
