نطق الكلمات ببطء... كأنّه يغرسها في صدري واحدة تلو الأخرى: - أنت... لن تتركني. هززت رأسي فورًا، والذعر يتسرب إلى صوتي: - هنري... توقف... أنت تخيفني. تغيّرت ملامحه فجأة. كأن الجملة أصابته في مكان لا يجب أن يُلمس. ثم- دفعني بيدٍ واحدة فقط. قوة واحدة... كافية ليُفقدني توازني وأسقط أرضًا. تراجعت على الأرض، أزحف... أرتجف: - لا... لن أهرب... أنا آسف... ضحك. لكنها لم تكن ضحكة. بل شيء آخر... أشد اضطرابًا. تلك الابتسامة... انحنى نحوي، ثم أمسك بقدمي وسحبني نحوه بسهولة، كأنني لا شيء: - دعني أتأكد... - أنك لن تفعلها. ركلته بذعر، أصرخ، أتنفس بسرعة... لكنّه لم يتأثر. لم يتوقف. التفت إليّ، وما زال يبتسم. ابتسامة... غير مستقرة. أخذ السكين. و رفعها ببطء. - سأقطع واحدة فقط... هذه المرة.
