As a little girl, I watched him light up the Apollo stage with his brothers, and as an adult I watched him light up every room he walked into. I had no idea that inside him was a darkness and sadness that stemmed from his childhood and plagued him as an adult. I had no idea the amount of loneliness he had been trapped in until I came along.
