For Lilly, Hannah, and Griffyn, the playground was a sanctuary-a place of laughter and "monkey bar hands." But as they hit fourteen, the sanctuary begins to crumble. Lilly is trapped in the suffocating silence of her parents' bitter divorce, feeling like she's standing on a fault line that is about to swallow her whole. When a routine act of rebellion-skipping school to help a friend-leads to a split-second decision, the world tilts on its axis. A momentary lapse in judgment lands Lilly and Hannah in the back of a black sedan driven by a stranger with a chillingly calm demeanor. What began as an escape from their domestic lives becomes a desperate fight for survival. Outside the car, Griffyn and Ky are forced into a frantic, high-speed pursuit, leaning on an older friend and their own raw instincts to save the girls before the trail goes cold.

Three months ago, seven teenagers fled their lives and stumbled into a traumatic secret. Now, they live in a strange, fragile peace. Lilly, Griffyn, Ky, Hannah, Mackenzie, Linda, and Hadley have been adopted by Marshall, the kind but watchful security guard who found them. They are safe, housed, and under constant, suffocating supervision in his small Taber home. But their sanctuary is a prison built around a ticking clock: $500,000 remains hidden in the living room chimney, a constant, silent pressure cooker of guilt and opportunity. Their fragile new life shatters when the body of Isa, a missing girl from the night of their desperate escape, is discovered in the Taber River. The police are calling it a brutal murder, and the sudden return of their worst secret threatens to expose the "found family" to an intense criminal investigation. Marshall, their adoptive father, becomes an unwilling shield, desperately trying to protect his children from the police's growing suspicion. With the walls closing in, the teenagers must execute an impossible plan: escape their kindhearted protector, retrieve the money, and plant a definitive, unassailable lead that will divert the murder investigation far away from them-and bury the real truth forever.

Best friends Lilly and Griffyn's late-night sleepover takes a chilling turn when Lilly wakes at 2:00 AM to find Griffyn gone and his sleeping bag empty. Her only clue is a forgotten, cold walkie-talkie that suddenly crackles to life. On the other end is Griffyn, his voice tight with panic. He reveals he was lured out of the house by a mysterious call sounding exactly like their friend Ky, and is now trapped inside the locked gates of Holy Spirit Academy. As the call abruptly cuts out, Lilly realizes her own front door and window are inexplicably sealed. This is no ordinary disappearance-it's a trap. With the dead walkie-talkie as her only link to her best friend, Lilly must now confront the suffocating silence of her own home to find a way to break out and rescue Griffyn.
